It's been more than three years since General Motors first appeared with their zero-emission Volt concept. It took them that before GM realized the public's been waiting for it for much too long. And so after placing as all in the clouds, GM finally allowed the godly Volt to touch the lands of man.

The Volt, under GM's Chevrolet marque, is now up with a real base price, $41,500. But the Volt, with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty under its name, is qualified for a $7,500 federal tax credit. This will bring the net price tag to just $33,500 after receiving the credit.

Those who are inetersted will now be able to place their orders at www.getmyvolt.com. Also, they will be able to track their purchase status as GM starts rolling their delivery of the Volt later this year.

The Chevrolet Volt will initially be offered only in selected regions: California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Michigan, and Texas.As the year goes on, however, GM hopes to expand the scope of its market.

Also, the high price tag the Volt carries is an issue to deal with. GM hopes to have the price lowered with strong market demand and higher production volumes.

The price is the Chevrolet Volt's disadvantage against rivals in the market such as the Nissan Leaf with a price of $33,000. If the tax credit applies to the Leaf, then the price could fall in $25,500.
