Since its first debut in 1985, the Hyundai Sonata has been a best seller for Korean automaker Hyundai. Its initial success resulted in Hyundai introducing it to different markets worldwide, with its biggest volume in old in its homeland South Korea.

The Hyundai Sonata have long been used as the rich man's vehicle in Korea.

Hyundai Sonata is now on its 6th generation, with the 6th gen being its most popular and one that sells the most. In May, it became the 10th best selling car in the United States.

Recently, the Hyundai Sonata reached its pinnacle when it achieved its 5 million mark for global sales. The Sonata is the 3rd vehicle from Hyundai that achieved this feat.

“The five million mark is a testament to Hyundai’s continuous quality improvement, technological advancement and differentiated design,” Steve S. Yang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor, said in a statement. “It’s Korea’s No. 1 sedan and now aims to be a game changer for the segment worldwide." he added.

Of the 5 million Sonatas sold world wide, about 2.7 million of it ended up in the automaker’s home market of South Korea. The United States received about 1.3 million of it and the remaining 1 million is spread out in different parts of the globe, including other markets in North America.
