Ford has had popular days with its Sync, but General Motors wanted to show the world they're in the game as well. Google, being the world's 'hottest commodity' for technological innovations, will surely attract more car consumers if they are equipped with anything Google. This is probably what GM had in their minds when they partnered with the giant search company.

GM has earlier announced the Chevrolet Volt will be equipped with a Google-powered GPS software. Surely, it will have Google Maps for its navigation. But aside from the Volt, Google Maps will soon be available on all its vehicles equipped with OnStar navigation board.

“eNav is a perfect solution for subscribers who like the flexibility of being able to use Google Maps to plan their trips in advance, but without the hassle of bringing printed maps into the vehicle,” according to Nick Pudar, OnStar vice president of new business development.

Before GM announced it will put OnStar and Google Maps together, it was rumored that OnStar will be terminated from the contract and that Google will fully replace the service. But rumors proved to be wrong, and the two services will be helping each other for the sake of GM.

The OnStar eNav will be available on all Turn-by-Turn capable vehicles, including vehicles dating back to the 2006 model year.
