I bought a 2000 Subaru Outback last Summer. I've always been a Toyota guy because they're so damned dependable. My favorite Toyota SR5 wagon had 415,000 miles before I gave it to a friend. Anyway, back to my Subaru. The drivers side window would go down just fine, but not go back up. So, I took the master power window assembly piece (don't know the official name) out. To do this, pry the assembly out gently and unplug the two multi-pin connectors. Take it to a good work space where you can disassemble it. Remove the 4 screws that hold it together. Then, gently pry off the black plastic window levers. They rock on two little miniature nobs. Look closely and you can figure it out. Keep disassembling until you get down to the circuit board.

On the circuit board, you need to remove (Ever so gently pry) the white and clear plastic piece that rocks forward and backward. There are four of them, one for each window. The top left one controls the drivers side window. Under that you will find little metal pieces shaped like a flattened "W" that act as a teeter totter. When these teeter forward, your window goes down. When they teetor backward it goes up. If you take one out (there are two) and set one of these on your tabIe, you will notice they can teetor totter forward and back just a bit. My trick: I flattened these out ever so slightly so they just barely could rock forward and back on a flat surface.I suggest you only take apart the one that doesn't work (If it ain't broke, don't fix it.). Reassemble it all and put it back in. Hopefully, it'll work. If not try again. If it still doesn't work, replace it with a used one from a junk yard.

The reason your window stops working is because electricity stops flowing where it's needed to get your stupid window up or down. Repair the faulty bridge so the electrons can dance their way to your window motor and do what they were destined to do.
