So you already decided that you want to purchase a new car and that you want to dispose off your current car already. In this kind of situation, which is better: sell your car or trade it? There's really no absolute answer, as it depends from situation to situation, but there are a number of considerations that you have to make.~~

First off is the value of your car. How much is your car worth these days? If you don't know the value of your car, websites like Kelley Blue Book will give you a rough estimate for almost every kind of car in the market. KBB gives you four different prices. There's a trade-in value, a private party value, a suggested retail value, and the certified pre-owned value. Do take these figures into consideration when deciding where to dispose your car. After finding the value of your car, you also have the option to check out the local classifieds and possibly post information about the vehicle that you are trying to sell.

Despite this, note that dealers will almost always offer you a price that is lower than your car's actual value. The reason? They need to make some profit, of course! The dealer also incurs extra costs by making sure that your used car is cleaned and well-tuned for resale. So don't expect that you can get your car's actual cost, though the initial offer can always be a starting point for negotiation between you and the dealer. Also note that the older the model of your car, the more expensive it is--unless it's an antique whose age dates back to the early 1900's, of course.

The dealer will also make you think that you are getting more for what your car is actually worth. Don't fall for this. Always make the dealer give the first offer for your car because he/she knows more what it is worth. Then from there, try to work things up, if you know what I mean.
